DESCRIPTION:\n\nThe KLC announces a series of briefings to prepare Island r
 esidents for the transition to a new form of government later in 2024: Pre
 paring for government service. The briefings will aim to build skills and 
 confidence to prepare individuals to be nominated as candidates for electi
 on or to apply for senior management roles and responsibilities in the new
  administration. The Interim Council Administration is expected to be diss
 olved in December 2024\, if not earlier.\n\nAttendance at the briefings do
 es not oblige anyone to apply to join the new administration in any capaci
 ty. The knowledge and learning outcomes will benefit anyone interested in 
 matters concerning management and public administration.\n\nThis briefing 
 by local identity Tet Grube JP\, an experienced insurance broker on the Is
 land with traditional Island heritage\, is not a commercial presentation. 
 It will give an overview of insurance relevant to public officials\, busin
 esses and homeowners alike.\n\nThere is no charge. Doors will open at 2:30
  PM for self-serve tea and coffee for gold coin donation. Registration is 
 not compulsory but will assist KLC with numbers to prepare the venue with

 tary\, "Exploring the Natural History of Norfolk Island." This 50-minute f
 ilm captures Sorrel's recent Churchill Fellowship journey\, during which s
 he visited natural history museums and libraries worldwide to examine arch
 ived specimens and colonial-era artworks from Norfolk Island\, of species 
 that have sadly been lost to extinction.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nFollowing the scree
 ning\, which is scheduled at the Knowledge and Learning Centre\, 70 Taylor
 s Road\, at 5:15 PM for a 5:30 PM start on Friday 6 September\, there will

DESCRIPTION:Professor Angela Arthington\, an ecologist and scholar of inter
 national renown\, will be visiting Norfolk Island at the end of September.
 \n\nA casual drop-in is being arranged for Friday 27 September\, with pizz
 a being served at about 5:30 PM.\n\nIt is proposed that the event will inc
 lude a general chat about the activities of the Norfolk Island Flora and F
 auna Society and the Recovery Plan.\n\nThe Recovery Plan under which threa
 tened flora and fauna is protected under Commonwealth regulation was revis
 ed in late 2023. It  records the need for research / biodiversity invento
 ry of invertebrates generally and the flora and fauna of freshwater system
 s on the Island. There are no listed aquatic species in the Recovery Plan 
 and it is proposed that this will be a subject for discussion.\n\n&nbsp\;\
 n\nProfessor Arthington's credentials are well explained in a retrospectiv
 e that she published in the 2022 volume of the Proceedings of The Royal So
 ciety of Queensland and in a citation for her award of Life Membership of 
 that body (last two articles on the web page).\n\nThe event is not a publi
 c meeting. All members of the Flora and Fauna Society and officers of the 
 National Park are welcome to attend. Other interested members of the publi
