Join us at the next Science at Sunset session on Tuesday 16 September with Junn Kitt Foon, PhD candidate, School of Science, Western Sydney University, and our own Natural Resource Management Ranger, Sam Burridge.

Junn and Sam will talk about snail husbandry (aka how to be a snail zookeeper!) and lessons learned from preparing zoo-bred snails for release into the wild.

After a successful breeding program at Taronga Zoo, 600 critically endangered endemic snails were returned to the Island. To prepare them for release, wild leaf litter and palm fronds were gradually introduced and their responses monitored by the on-island husbandry team and zookeepers. We discuss the results of this husbandry program, and the decisions made towards reintroducing them into the wild.

The talk starts at 5:00pm at the Knowledge and Learning Centre.

All are welcome to attend. There is no charge, although a gold coin donation to the Knowledge and Learning centre is appreciated.

Sponsored by Parks Australia in collaboration with Norfolk Island Flora & Fauna Society.
