A soirée with Jacqui Chapman-Shone and daughter Sonya
The overall objective of the presentation is to pass-on /share knowledge and if the interest is there to encourage Norfolk Islanders to better understand and embrace the largely forgotten musical culture of the Tahitian Women of the Bounty and to explain how to access all the valuable Knowledge Centre information online relating to Polynesian music as fellow musicians.
As currently being put together, the presentation would be a combination of powerpoint slides and short video and audio clips (totalling about 20 to 30 mins) followed by a Q&A session covering the period after Jacqui’s formative years in New Zealand & Nauru which influenced her interest in Polynesian & Melanesian cultures, her re-connecting to Norfolk Island, the Polynesian renaissance in Aotearoa & the Pacific, working around the world in many cultures as a spouse in the UN system, visiting Tahiti, studying ethnomusicology in Zimbabwe, getting closer to her Tahitian cultural roots and learning & performing Tahitian and Polynesian music; and preparing resources for sharing that knowledge of Tahitian music.
Note: Double-booking with Science at Sunset is to be reconciled.
