Language and literature
Norf’k is a distinct language tracing its origins through Pitcairn Islanders to Old English (~end 1700s) and Tahitian with other contributions.
The international website Glosbe can translate words or passages between Norf’k-Pitcairn and English as well as other languages: https://glosbe.com/pih.
A dedicated section of this website is to be reserved for the materials produced by the Language Commission of the Council of Elders in 2024.
As at May 2026, negotiations are in train with Emeritus Professor Peter Mühlhäusler of the University of Adelaide to secure the preservation of his voluminous professional papers on the Norf’k language. A page has been reserved for his materials.
